Work is getting underway on the restoration of the Grade II-listed 1930s Art Deco building following enabling works by Prichard’s Demolition and asbestos removal by Severn Insulation.
Bridgend County Borough Council is leading the project in partnership with Awen Cultural Trust. The overhaul will restore key heritage features and introduce new studio spaces, a rear extension, and a rooftop café overlooking the bay.
The job will run through to 2027 and follows detailed design work and consultations backed by funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, Bridgend Council, and the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.
Council leader John Spanswick said: “This ambitious redevelopment will not only protect the building’s fabric but also deliver an impressive cultural facility for the borough.”
